The period of the British Raj was like winter-cold and dreary and after it, independence will come like spring during which plants get new leaves and then they go on to bloom. Hence, ‘spring’ stands for independence.

Answer:
The period of sleep is a time of maximum inertia. The period of the British Raj is referred to as ‘age-long sleep’ because it was the period of great suppression resulting in inertia.
निद्रा का समय ऐसा होता है जिसमें अत्यधिक निष्क्रियता रहती है। ब्रिटिश राज के समय के कठोर दमन के कारण देश में निष्क्रियता आ गई थी। अतः उस समय को दीर्घकालिक निद्रा कहा है।

Answer:
If the intellectuals were not suppressed they could have created an uprising in the country. Hence they were brutally suppressed. This was the cause of the broken wing of the song bird. (The bird in the poem has been compared with the people.)
यदि बुद्धिजीवियों का दमन नहीं किया जाता तो वे देश में विद्रोह करा सकते थे। अतः उनका कठोरता के साथ दमन किया गया। यही गाने वाली चिडिया के पंख टने का कारण था। (कविता में चिड़िया की लोगों से तुलना की गई है।)

The Indian intellectuals had not in their heart accepted that the British Rule was constitutional. Hence the song bird’s heart is called wild which also means rebellious. It was suffering from the oppression of the British Raj.

Answer:
It is called far-reaching because its voice has the ability to rekindle the hopes and spirits. The brute force of the British Raj was able to suppress
physical activities but it was unable to impede mental activity. Hence, the poet has used the word unconquered.
उसको far-reaching इसलिए कहा गया क्योंकि उसमें आशा तथा उत्साह को फिर से जगाने का सामर्थ्य था। ब्रिटिश राज का कठोर दमन शारीरिक गतिविधि को तो रोक सकता था पर मानसिक गतिविधि पर अंकुश लगाना सम्भव नहीं था। अत: unconquered का उपयोग किया गया है।

The Broken Wing Summary in Hindi
कविता भारत में ब्रिटिश राज के उस काल का चित्रण करती है जब स्वाधीनता संग्राम शरू ही हुआ था। सदियों के प्रभुत्व ने भारतवासियों के आत्मबल को तोड़कर रख दिया था और उन बुद्धिजीवियों को भी आघात पहुँचाया था जो साधारण मनुष्य को अधिक प्रभावित कर सकते थे कवि, नाटककार, दूसरे लेखक। कविता में इनका प्रतिरूप है गाना गाने वाली चिड़िया। इनकी आवाज को बहुत समय से दबाया हुआ था। उनके (अंग्रेजों के) द्वारा किसी भी प्रतिकार को सख्ती से, कठोर बल प्रयोग तथा संवाद नियन्त्र” द्वारा दबाया जाता था। किन्तु अब भारतवासी जाग चुके थे। कविता में महान सुबह आसन्न स्वाधीनता है और दुःख भरी रात प्रभुत्वकाल। प्रत्याशा का आनन्द देश में फैला हुआ व्यापक तातावरण है जिसे खिलती हुई कलियों के रूप में चित्रित किया गया है और स्वाधीनता की आशा को वायु के पुनर्वागमन के रूप में। जिस प्रकार पक्षी सुबह होते ही प्रकाश की ओर उड़ने को तैयार होते हैं उसी प्रकार भारत के लोग भी स्वतन्त्रता के शानदार पथ पर चलने को तैयार हैं। ऐसे समय वे बुद्धिजीवियों, जिन्होंने अत्याचार का प्रहार भुगता है तथा जो टूटे हुए पंख वाले पक्षी के समान हैं, से पूछते हैं कि क्या उनमें इतनी शक्ति है कि वे उनके साथ चल सकेंगे ?
गीत गाने वाली चिड़िया का उत्तर प्रशंसनीय है। वह कहती है कि आजादी की जिस पुकार ने लोगों को जगा दिया है उस पुकार को उसका उन्मुक्त किन्तु दु:खी हृदय अनदेखी नहीं कर सकता। सदियों के दमन ने भले ही शरीर को कमजोर कर दिया हो, वह आत्मवल को निश्चय ही नहीं तोड़ पाया है। उसका शरीर भले ही दबाव में हो फिर भी उसका स्वर अविजित है। वह जख्मी पंखों को, लाबे समय से इन्तजार कर रही, उसकी स्वतन्त्रता की ओर उड़ान को रोकने नहीं देगी। इतना कहकर वह घायल चिड़िया ऊपर और ऊपर उड़ जाती है-अपनी हृदय की आकांक्षा, स्वाधीनता को प्राप्त करने के लिए।
